April 2005
Dear Mike Curb Record Producer
(Letter never answered)
Congratulations on an amazing career in the music business. I am sure we must have crossed paths when I was a recording engineer in the 60s at Western Untied Records at 6000 Sunset Blvd. The era of the Beach Boys, Elvis, and Herb Alpert.
Let me introduce myself.
I am Norm Pringle founder of the MEMORIAL GARDEN PROJECT. This is a project to create a beautiful garden in honor of the 2300 GIs who have paid the supreme sacrifice in Iraq. This is a non-political non-denominational project. Bob Garber President of Pierce College has shown interest in the project and I have had meetings with Thomas Oliver, President of Campus Development, and Dennis Washburn, Mayor of Calabasas and Director of the Foundation for Pierce College .
One of the methods of collecting funds for this project is through my SINGALONG AMERICA PROGRAM. This program feartures a chorus of voices and dancers. It is an audience participation program and we project the words on a large screen so the audience can join in. Other singing solo talents are used to give variety to the show. Solos are great for Danny Boy and The American GI. (on the CYBERCLOUD Website).
We have been trying to get a country star to sing THE AMERICAN GI . We have had plenty of offers from budding hopeful singers. We are trying to put it on the fast track to raise funds for the garden. I am hopeful someone in the gender of Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson or Allan Jackson will give it a go. I have e-mailed them all but realize their mail boxes are overflowing with such requests. I also realize the support of the troops and the war is a touchy subject but I can't see why anyone would be against the Garden Project
Being an old DJ in the Elvis and Johnny Cash era I realize what makes a hit. I think if anyone of the aforementioned artists would release the THE AMERICAN GI it would be an instant hit. As I own the publishing and composer royalties, I have already stated on my website that 100% of my royalties would go to the project and I know the artist would do the same.
In the meantime if you could suggest an artist for our Memorial Day Show we woud be truly grateful.
I would like to produce this show for Memorial Day to tie in with the Memorial Day Parade. This show would feature songs from the two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It would be a salute to all the veterans. As the songs are familiar American Ballads not much rehearsal time is required. We would make arrangements to broadcast and PODCAST the show through our website.
